Trailer Brake & Suspension Problems

A few practical starting points for recognizing brake or suspension concerns and planning the right service or upgrade.

What are common signs of a trailer brake problem?

Weak or uneven stopping, pulling to one side, grinding or squealing, an unusually hot hub or wheel, brake-controller warnings, or a hydraulic-fluid leak can indicate a trailer brake problem. If braking feels unsafe, stop in a safe place and have the system inspected before continuing.

Can electric drum brakes be upgraded to trailer disc brakes?

Many compatible trailers can be converted to electric-over-hydraulic disc brakes. Correct fitment depends on axle capacity, wheel and bolt pattern, current brake components, and the tow vehicle brake controller, so the trailer should be reviewed before parts are ordered.

What can indicate a trailer suspension problem?

Uneven ride height, a broken or flattened leaf spring, worn shackles, wet bolts or equalizers, loose suspension movement, unusual tire wear, harsh bouncing, or chucking can indicate a trailer suspension problem. A hands-on inspection is the best way to identify the cause.

Where can mobile trailer brake and suspension service be performed?

When the location is safe and permitted, Ramblin' Man RV can provide trailer service at RV rallies, campsites, storage areas, and driveways. Field service is limited to trailers; motorhomes cannot be safely serviced because of their weight.
